Bar Code Scanner for the CableEye® Cable Tester

Item 790U, Worth Data Model LI50 Integrated CCD Bar Code Reader with USB Interface

Item 790S, Worth Data Model LI50 Integrated CCD Bar Code Reader with Keyboard Wedge Interface

This sturdy, lightweight scanner acts as a second keyboard in your system by substituting data scanned from a barcode for keystrokes that you would have manually typed. Order the USB version if your computer supports USB devices, or the Keyboard Wedge version to insert between your keyboard and the computer using a supplied cable. No special software drivers are necessary because the bar code reader itself contains a microprocessor, scanning software, and USB or keyboard interface.

Scan bar codes over a range of 0.5 to 7 inches from the lens. The unit scans 44 times per second shutting off after the first successful read. Scan bar codes up to 4.5" wide. All major bar code formats supported including UPC, Codabar, Code 128, Code 39, 2 or 5, and MSI/Plessy. Compatible with Windows 98 and above. Two year warranty.

NOTE: CableEye software version 4.2 or greater necessary to use this scanner in Macros. See below for details!

Item 726A, CableEye Software Upgrade

This software release addresses the requirements of greater data security, provides more complete test reporting, and offers a data archive database to capture a complete record of every cable tested. Other features present in the prior version 4.1 but not previously publicized include the ability to change resistance thresholds automatically during a Macro, the ability to exclude named connections from a comparison, and the option of using a probe to trace hidden wires in a cable.

Starting with v4.2, you may choose to assign operator names with optional passwords and varying degrees of privilege. In this way, you may limit access to the tester to authorized personnel only, and protect the database, Macros, logs, and system settings from tampering. Neither User names nor passwords are required, and you may choose to use the system with fully open access as in prior versions.

New Macro instructions in this version include "Wait for Scan..." which may be used in place of "Wait for PB..." (PushButton), "Enter Operator Name" for on-the-fly changes of operators during a Macro, "Timestamp" to record the date and time of testing in the database archive, and "Open/Resume Log File" to resume adding cables to a previously created log file.

The Macro instructions "Wait for PB..." and the new "Wait for Scan..." no longer require the note file to be created externally by Notepad. Instead, we have designed a built-in template with a notes area to speed and simplify the use of these instructions.

"Wait for Scan..." lets you use a bar code reader to scan in any number of variables required by your application, including Unit Serial Number, Batch, Lot Code, Operator Name, Test Station Number, and Plant Code.
